A large war knife, of a style used in Anglo-Saxon Britain during the Viking age, although evidence for pieces of this general form has been found across Northern Europe.

Blade: 12” single edged, broken backed blade in a simple pattern weld, with an edge of high carbon Silver Steel, forge welded to a very heavy spine of antique wrought iron, from the grounds of Kinloch Castle on the Isle of Rhum, differentially hardened, polished and etched to bring out the folded structure of the iron, and honed to a razor edge.

Handle: The 8” handle is cut from 6000 year old bog oak, with a long sycamore spacer, and a thin copper guard plate. The bog oak has been hand carved on each side with the two panels from the 9th century Anglo-Saxon cross shaft at Elstow Abbey, while the sycamore spacer has been carved with a ring knot motif from the carved window of another Anglo-Saxon building of the same period. 

Sheath: The Seax is housed in a wet formed, welted, hand stitched and elaborately tooled scabbard of heavy cow hide, stained a muted yet striking forest green. The tooling continues the various motifs of the handle decoration. The scabbard has twin leather suspension loops on forged copper rings.
