Late 18th C Dirk

£1,175.00

Blade:

13" single edged blade of hand forged 1095 high carbon steel core, polished and deeply etched, before being given a deep mustard patina, and honed to a fine edge.

Handle:

The handle is hand carved sycamore: the haunches have a deeply carved single band of 'dirk knot' braid with chevron core. The shaft has two bands of dirk knot with straight bars, and the pommel has another band of dirk knot with cording.

Mounts:

The pommel nut is sculpted steel and the ferrule is cold forged embossed copper, as is the rim of the pommel plate. Pommel is carved from horn, with knotwork panels framing pattern wire inlay in the form of a cross.

Sheath:

The blade is protected by a laminated millboard scabbard, covered with lambskin leather. The tip and throat of the sheath are reinforced with forged copper fittings. The sheath has a wet formed one piece frog and belt loop.
